background

Akeley is part of the Buckingham North policing neighbourhood. Neighbourhood policing is about putting the ‘local’ back into local policing. It’s about making sure that the police, working with other agencies, provide the service that people want by tackling those issues that are important to local residents.

Each neighbourhood, or group of neighbourhoods, will have its own team made up of police officers, police community support officers or wardens whose entire focus will be on that area.

The team comprises of one sergeant, one PC and two PCSO. They all work from Buckingham Police Station and are:

Neighbourhood action group

A Neighbourhood Action Group, or NAG, is set up to deal with key issues
identified following consultation with the community. Its task is to apply a problem solving process to identify what can be done to achieve noticeable and sustainable improvements.

NAGs are volunteer working groups made up of representatives from the
community. They will include residents, the police, local authority and other organisations, such as local businesses and schools.

They are key to the success of neighbourhood policing as it is this group who will plan on behalf of the community and organise for tasks to be completed. In effect, they are the ‘doers’ accountable locally for responding to problems a community wants to tackle.

The NAG that covers Akeley meets regularly every other month.
