local facilities
There are recycling facilities at Tesco's in Buckingham and also there is  the Household Refuse Centre at Buckingham Industrial estate. You may need a permit to take rubbish to the latter - see below

The village school is always happy to receive waste paper as a means of fund raising

PERMIT SCHEME
Private cars, 4x4s or MPVs do not need a permit to take DIY waste. The height barriers have been permanently raised to allow any of these vehicle or those with a permit in.

The scheme means permits are required for commercial vehicles, people on foot, or those with large trailers (up to 1.8m x 1.2m maximum), and are valid for 31-days. DIY waste is limited to 6 items per permit.  A permit is also needed for disposing of Asbestos in any vehicle although the Buckingham site doe NOT take asbestos.

BULKY ITEMS
There are regular dates when the Bulk Refuse Collection freighter comes to Akeley. 
The next visit will be at Manor Road on the morning of Thursday 15th May 2008 between 7.30am and 11am. It is for the collection of household refuse only. For details of exactly what will be accepted onto the freighter, villagers can visit www.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk/refuse, or look at the posters on the Parish Council notice boards in the village which are by the school and on the side of the bus shelter in front of Coronation Cottages.
It will visit again on Wednesday 3rd December 2008.

Waste management
Buckinghamshire County Council are responsible for arranging the disposal of all household rubbish generated in the County:
  • 9 Household Waste and Recycling Centres
  • Initiatives to encourage the reduction and recycling of rubbish

Aylesbury Vale District Council are responsible for:

  • House to house collection of domestic waste in wheelie bins or black bags
  • Special collections of bulky items from private dwellings (there may be a charge)
  • Collection of clinical waste from private dwellings
  • Street cleaning including emptying litter bins, collecting fly-tipped rubbish on public land and street sweeping
  • Recycling banks (glass, paper, cans, plastic, etc.) other than those situated at household waste sites.
  • Abandoned vehicles in any public area
