Akeley village schoolSally Hughes, the headteacher of the Akeley village school writes: I
am proud to be headteacher of St James and St John C of E school in
Akeley and Chackmore. A
small village church school is a very special place to teach and
learn and we can be glad that our village school has gone from
strength to strength because of the amalgamation. This is the second
year of our amalgamation and it is proving to be a great success in
many ways. It
was a great challenge for everyone involved in the amalgamation. We
strengthened as a body during the year leading towards the
amalgamation. The
governing bodies and the two teams of staff as well as all parents
and children, of Akeley and Chackmore were so committed to the school
that it could only be a success.
Now,
we have all Key Stage 1 children on the Akeley site – ages 4-7 and
I am pleased to say we are almost at capacity. We have 56 children.
It is a great sight to see when the children are playing and the
playground is full of children’s laughter and enjoyment. At
year 3 the children move onto the Chackmore site for the next 4 years
of primary schooling (7-11 years). We currently have 74 on the
Chackmore site. Although
the children are separate on the 2 sites we do try to integrate them
for concerts and performances and this is made possible when we use
the space in the village hall at Akeley. Akeley
is a thriving village which clearly supports its village school and
it is wonderful to give something back to the community. The young
children sing at the Christmas lunch at the Bull and Butcher and at
church services held in the village hall throughout the year. The
Autumn Fayre has also been held in the village Hall at Akeley for the
past two years. We
look forward to a long and prosperous future in our beautiful
Buckinghamshire villages. For
